What is Dormen? One-to-one mentoring for Dorset businesses Since 2005, over 1050 businesses supported 90 volunteer mentors experienced in business Developed and funded by a partnership of local authorities in Bournemouth, Dorset and Poole and other public and private sector organisations

What it is intended to achieve? Helps clients agree their priorities & plans and gives encouragement to achieve them Helps clients develop their skills and find their own solutions Helps monitor performance

What is a Dormen Mentor? A sounding board A friend of the business Someone who is interested, listens, asks questions and challenges Someone to discuss the options with Confidential, unbiased and non-judgemental

What a Dormen Mentor is not Business advisor / consultant / trainer ( Can’t give specialist advice or ‘work’ for you) Someone who tells you how to run your business! Quick fix for urgent problems Someone to make difficult decisions for you Miracle worker with a magic wand!

Who can we help? Small/medium sized businesses based in Dorset Social enterprises Any sector

Examples of businesses we have helped Mark Cribb of Urban Beach Hotel and Urban Reef restaurant, is a strong advocate of Dormen. Mark required the ‘bounce’ from an impartial, third party confidant. Worked with his mentor for past 4 years, since when he has opened a café in Russell Cotes museum and Jenkins & Sons, a restaurant in Poole.

Examples of businesses we have helped 2. Award winning, overworked pair of landscape designers who could not ‘see the woods for the trees’ Janine Pattison Studios are an excellent example of how being mentored can turn business blindness in to success.

How much does it cost? Businesses are asked to make a £100 contribution to our administration costs to access the services of a business mentor for up to 12 months. All our business mentors are volunteers who give their time & expertise for free.

Who have we worked with on Industrial Estate? We are working and have worked with quite a few companies on the estate. As a local engineering company said of his mentor:- ‘The best hundred quid I have ever spent!’
