Plato vs. Aristotle Plato’s Republic (Perfect Society) was divided into 3 levels: –Gold (guardians) “philosopher king”, rulers who used philosophy- knew the truth and used to it rule wisely. Should always have power! –Silver (Auxiliaries) warriors and people of strength –Bronze (artisans) common producers such as farmers and builders Plato believed all men and women could serve at all levels. Aristotle thought men were tops. Plato’s mistrust of democracy may have resulted from Socrates’ death. Plato vs. Aristotle Aristotle believed: Locking people into 3 classes was dangerous, rigid, and led to unhappiness of some classes. (Gold could never be Bronze.) Some people could rise to better positions or fall because of their abilities. People needed to participate in democracy but it was better than Plato’s government.
