Match~Cars By: Jeryvin Vinarao Mr. liengang’s 5 th Per. Science class

Question How does increasing the number of match rockets (2,4,6) attached to a toy car effect the distance how far effect how far it moves on a flat surface.
3
Hypothesis As the number of match rockets is increased (2,4,6), then it will effect the distance of how far the toy car will move, on a flat surface. Because the more power is added to the toy car the farther the distance will be.
4
Variable CV: The flat surface. RV: the distance of how far the Toy Car moves. MV: How many match rockets that will be connected to the Toy Car.

Materials 1 Toy car Box of matches Lighter Roll of foil Roll of Tape Adult supervision Flat surface Data Table

Procedure 1. Cut foil into 2 inch by 1 ½ inch 2. Cut tips of matches 3. put 2 inch by ½ inch foil flat on table 4. place 3 match tips in the side 5 ml. down from the top of the 2 by ½ inch foil 5.start rolling the foil,(start from the side with the match tips) all the way to the other side of the foil. 6.foil should look like a small cylinder, with a hole as big as the match tips. 7. pinch and twist the 5 ml of space left of the tip above the matches in to a sharp tip. 8.Make 12 match rockets. 9.connect 2 match rockets to the toy car 10.Set toy car on a flat surface. 11.turn on lighter and put under the match rockets tips 12.wait a few seconds until it launches. 13.when the toy car is launched record the distance of how far it moved. 14.repeat steps, for 4 and 6 match rockets.

Abstract What I did was I tape match rockets to a toy car, first I start with 2 match rockets, then add 2 more match rockets up to the maximum of 6 rockets to increase the distance of the toy cars launch. I will use the lighter to heat the matches in the match rockets, once the matches inside the rocket start to heat up, a few seconds later, then the match rocket will be hot enough for the matches to inflame and cause the rocket to launch, while the toy car is taped to the match rockets, and will cause the toy car to launch also. Then I will record the distance and add 2 more match rocket.

Conclusion I thought that if I increase the number of match rockets connected to the toy car,(2,4 and 6) then the distance of when the toy car is launch will also increase. We can prove this because the lowest avg. of when 2 match rockets was 1.8 and The highest avg. for 6 match rockets was 8.5. the difference was 6.7. This supports my original hypothesis. Therefore if we do increase the number of match rockets connected to a toy car, then the distance of when the toy car is launched will increase on a flat surface.
