Buoyancy & Archimedes’s Principle
2
Buoyant- tending to float on a liquid.
Buoyant force- acts in the upward direction, against the force of gravity, making an object feel lighter.
3
Archimedes’s principle states that the buoyant force on an object is equal to the weight of the fluid displaced by the object. Gravity Buoyancy An object sinks when it weighs more than the water it displaces.

1. What makes a ship float and what caused the Titanic to sink?
Buoyant forces cause a ship to float. If the ship weighs more than the water it displaces, it will sink. Also stated, if a ship has a higher density than water it will sink.

2. Which forces have to be in balance in order for an object to float?
Gravity and buoyancy.
