The Raven Level 2 Rubber Band-Powered Flight

Dimensions 2”

STEP 1: Dihedral Cuts With a ruler and hobby knife, CAREFULLY cut halfway through the wing on the pencil lines.

Step 2: Snap Dihedral Angles TURN THE WING OVER! Use a ruler while slowly pulling up on wing tip to gently snap the cut. It should not break completely in half!

Step 3: Glue the Dihedral Angles Find a 2” block of wood the length of the wings not including the tips (About 8” long)

With the cuts UP, place the wing on the block. Then, carefully press the wing tips down and tape them to the table. Next, apply glue into the cracks.

Step 4: Wing Support While the wing is drying, find the 6”x3/8”x1/8” piece.

Find the 18” long stick (fuselage). Make a mark 3-½” from one end.

Glue the wing support on end, as shown onto the fuselage.

STEP 5: Fuselage Once dry, flip the fuselage over. Measure ½” from one end of the fuselage. Glue the ⅛”x1/8” piece down the MIDDLE of the larger stick. ½”

Step 6: Reinforce the Dihedrals The instructions recommend tissue but I used mailing labels to reinforce the top and bottom where the cuts are.

Step 7: Build the Tail Turn the fuselage over so that the wing support is up and on the right side. Use a ruler to keep it propped up.

Make sure the shorter side of the tail is facing forward. Then glue the fuselage to the pencil line.

Step 8: Vertical Stabilizer With the wood grain UP and the flat tip forward, glue the vertical stabilizer to the LEFT side of the fuselage. Flat Tip Grain

Step 9: Mount the Wing Use a ruler to find the very center of the wing. Mark a line

Mark the Mid-Point on the 2” Shim.

Glue the shim on the front wing edge

Let everything dry...

Slide the two rubber bands over the front of fuselage and move to the rear of the wing support.

Place the wing on the fuselage Pull the rubber bands over the TOP of the wing and over the fuselage. This allows the wing to move when landing (or crashing) and for adjustments to center of gravity.

Center the Wing on the Support

Step 10: Propeller Insert glue into plastic holder part of propeller.

Push propeller onto fuselage The hook is on the bottom!

Straight Pin Insert straight pin at a 45 degree angle about 1” from the tail.

Tie the Ends of the Rubber Band Together

STEP 11: Add Names, a Glider #, and Decorations! 69

STEP 11: Balance the Propeller 1. Spin the propeller. 2. Use a sharpie to mark the side of the prop. that ends up at the bottom after it stops spinning. 3. Spin the prop again. 4. If the same side of the prop ends up on the bottom again, use a hobby knife to scrape the heavier side until it is balanced.

Work with a partner to WIND it up!

STEP 12: FLY IT! 100% = longest flight 95% = 2nd 94% = 3rd 93% = 4th 92% = 5th 91% = 6th 90% = 7th 89% = 8th 88% = 9th 87% = 10th 86% = 11th 85% = 12th 84% = 13th 83% = 14th 82% = 15th 81% = 16th 80% = 17th 79% = 18th 78% = 19th 77% = 20th 76% = 21st 75% = 22nd 74% = 23rd 73% = 24th 72% = 25th 71% = 26th 70% = <26th
