4  Device Design  Think of a ride at Six Flags: a marble is hit by a wooden spoon that rolls down a curved track.  The marble is then shot into a funnel, and it then rolls down another track to hit a set of dominoes which hits a long stick.  The stick falls and raises the banner and starts the next team’s project.

5  y = final y positiony 0 = initial y positionx = final x positionx 0 = initial x position  g = acceleration of gravityv 0 = initial velocitytheta = marble launch angle  m = mass v = final velocity v’ = initial velocity r = radius of domino I = mass moment of inertia  omega 1 = initial angular velocity omega 2 = final angular velocity  Projectile Motion:  Conservation of Linear Momentum:  Center of Mass:  Conservation of Translational Energy:  Conservation of Rotational Energy:

6  Our first issue was getting the marble to launch off the track.  This was solved by using a bottle cap to tap the marble down the track.  Getting the marble to shoot into the funnel was one more issue.  This was solved by adjusting the location of the funnel.  Another issue was finding a way to apply enough force to the stick by the dominoes so the stick falls over.  This was solved by replacing the last domino with a heavier magnet.  From this project, we utilized good teamwork and fair sharing of the tasks required.
