Case study 2: Some experience of OERs Academic; Support for Engineering Mathematics In-house, supplementary resources, HEA funded Challenges: understanding cc licences, no tracking of usage of published OERs (therefore hard to get recognition) Benefits: teaching resources all copyright compliant, learnt about OER through doing project, Future: Better repositories for OERs Advice: Use student interns Guidance: Learn about cc licences before starting project  Don’t publish without tracking of usage

Case study 3: Experienced practitioner Learning technologist; Plant science teaching resources In-house, supplementary resources, funded, community provided Challenges: copyright clearance of lecturer resources Benefits: great discipline specific community engagement (providing and using resources) Future: Sustainable solution for storing resources Advice: Use academic community wisely Guidance: Make sustainable repository plans at outset  don’t attempt to obtain © clearance for the community

Development of Institutional policy 1.OER steering group (academics, OER champions, SDDU, library, copyright expert, student rep) 2.Consultation with academic community, external universities, HEA / JISC 3.Draft policy circulated widely for comments 4.Produced set of recommendations to accompany policy 5.Final policy to be agreed/implemented in Autumn 2012
