6 Kishwaukee College is a community college founded in 1968, located amongst the beautiful cornfields of Malta, IL. Located 6 miles west of DeKalb, IL and Northern Illinois University Around 3500 FTE Implemented Colleague R18 in 2007/2008 with two Sun v490 servers running Solaris 10 and using Oracle 10g for the database

11 The New Hardware Platform Completely Virtual Environment VMware vSphere 4.1 (Vcenter/ESXi 4.1) 6 Host Servers –4 HP DL380G6 – Dual Quad Core Xeon x5550 64GB RAM –2 HP DL380G7 – Dual Six Core Xeon X5650 192 GB RAM 17 TB Usable Storage Currently Changing out 2 of the G6 servers for 2 HP DL380G8 servers (Dual Eight Core Xeon E5- 2690 224GB RAM) during Summer 2013

13 The Test Migration Data brought into new environment Because we were an Oracle school, data was pretty clean Had to figure out how to identify our custom code (not too much custom) and install Had to setup a new (virtual) WebAdvisor server as well as a new (virtual) DMI server Setup authentication Identify users to test and let them do their thing AR.INVOICE.ITEMS

16 Preparing For Migration Weekend We decided to only do one test migration. Were we ready? Yes! Schedule the weekend – multiple areas of the college involved. 5/31/12 – 6/3/12 Re-implement custom data dumps in SSIS (Admissions, Document Imaging) Organize users for Acceptance Testing and come up with testing plans OT and Comp Time authorized Figure out food for the weekend Cots…some place to sleep is very important!

19 The Weekend Started Thursday evening with DMIG By Saturday, data was done Challenges: –Custom Code –Regen Computed Columns (BNGN) –Build the custom views/Business Objects reports/setup ODBC connections –Sleep Deprivation –Acceptance Testing
