2 Cattle * Cows – mature females that can reproduce
* Steer – castrated male cattle that cannot reproduce * Bullocks – young male bulls that cannot reproduce * Heifer – young female cattle; has not had offspring

3 Cattle (continued) Calf – young cattle too young to reproduce
Bulls – male cattle that can reproduce Beef – meat from cattle

4 Sheep Ram – mature male sheep Ram lamb – young male sheep
Ewe – mature female sheep Ewe lamb – young female sheep Lamb – newborn sheep or young sheep, also the meat from a young sheep Mutton – meat from a sheep older than one year of age Wether – castrated male sheep

5 Swine - Hogs or Pigs Boar – mature male hog/can breed
Gilt – young female pig/has not had a litter Barrow – castrated male pig or hog Shoat – young male pig Pig/piglet – newborn or very young pig Sow – mature female/has had a litter Pork – meat from swine

6 Chickens Hen – mature female chicken
Cock (Rooster) – mature male chicken Capon – castrated male chicken Chick – newborn chicken Pullet – young female chicken Layer – hen used for laying eggs Broiler/Fryer – chickens grown to eat

7 Turkey Tom – mature male turkey Poult – very young turkey
Hen – mature female turkey Capon – castrated male turkey

8 Horses Stallion – mature male horse Gelding – castrated male horse
Filly – young female horse Foal – newborn horse Mare – mature female horse/has given birth to offspring Colt – young male horse
