Riddle – River Crossing GOAT, WOLF & CABBAGE A farmer is going home from the market. He bought a goat, a cabbage and a wolf. On the way home, he must cross a river. He will cross the river in a boat. The boat is small and won't fit more than one thing. Problem: He cannot leave the goat alone with the cabbage (because the goat will eat the cabbage). He cannot leave the goat alone with the wolf (because the wolf will eat the goat). QUESTION: How can the farmer get everything on the other side of the river?

STEPS: Introduce activity – Riddles (What are riddles?) 1.Ss listen the riddle completely. 2.Ss listen for key words. Then write them. (Ss may need to listen 2 times.) 3.Practice/Teach vocabulary to Ss. 4.Ss listen again and try to imagine the scene/picture. How do the key words connect. Ss draw their ideas out. Individual or the whole class. 5.Check comprehension – Ss (a few) tell the riddle back. HW: Talk with your friends and try to figure out the answer. Explain in English tomorrow (maybe extra credit) Activity – Riddle This is a good listening activity. Ss = Students
