3 23 poultry outbreaks from January 2004 to December 2008 in provinces mostly border to Vietnam. 8 human cases confirmed with H5N1 occurred in 5 provinces (7 case fatal). 7 First KAP survey among backyard poultry farmers, December, 2005 Findings Farmers know about Avian Influenza and are very worried, but do not have correct information to act on reducing risks. Awareness is low that their animals can be infected, so they are not taking preventive actions. Messages 1. Fence poultry 2. Keep new poultry separated from other poultry for two weeks 3. Wash hands with soap after handling poultry 4. Keep yards clean and free from poultry excrement. Research
