NPDN Diagnostic Data Sharing July 27, 2010 Ray Hammerschmidt NCPDN Director
2
Why do we want to share diagnostic data in the national database? Inform NPDN diagnosticians of disease and pest issues in surrounding states and regions by allowing them access to NPDN database Development of epidemiological models to aid in disease forecasting and detection of outbreak anomalies
3
How are data currently shared within the NPDN? No sharing of non-regulatory pests/pathogens is occurring When a significant pest is found in a state: – Protocol already established and tested via exercises – No information is released until approved by proper authority
4
How can we share non-regulatory diagnostic information submitted to the NPDN database? Several questions – Who owns the data? – What can and should be shared? Approaches – Find agreement between regulatory agencies and NPDN on what can be shared and how it can be shared – Start with sharing data only within the network to aid the efforts of diagnosticians – Utilize the widely prevalent disease lists as a starting point?
