2 The agency recognized to accredit physical therapy education programs is the… The Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE). CAPTE is an accrediting agency that is nationally recognized by the US department of education (USDE) and the council for higher education accreditation (CHEA). CAPTE grants specialized accreditation status to qualified entry-level education programs for physical therapists and physical therapist assistants. The CAPTE accreditation process depends on the commitment of numerous volunteers, who undertake the important work of providing peer review of physical therapist and physical therapist assistant education programs. The volunteer groups include the CAPTE members and the cadre of on-site reviewers. Both groups are supported by staff of… American Physical Therapy Association (APTA). 3 There are 3 categories of different levels of expectation for compliance under the Code of Ethics. 4 1 Guidelines The Code of Ethics Guide for Professional Conduct and Standards of Practice set forth principles and guidelines for professional behaviors; the profession has defined core values of accountability, altruism, compassion/caring, excellence, integrity, professional duty, and social responsibility; it is the responsibility of all physical therapist students to promote and know the importance of professionalism: GUIDELINES - CODE

5 2 Positions Physical Therapist Assistants should participate in continuing education classes that include and teach subject matter on interventions from the description of entry-level skills. Career development is essential for Physical Therapist Assistants and includes clinical experience, continuing education, increased skill proficiency, and clinical monitoring. 6 3 Share Your Presentation Standards 1.Physical Therapist Assistants shall respect the inherent dignity and rights of all individuals. 2.PTA’s shall be trustworthy and compassionate in addressing the rights and needs of patients. 3.PTA’s shall make sound decisions in collaborating with physical therapists and within the boundaries established by laws and regulations. 4.PTA’s shall demonstrate integrity in their relationships with patients/clients, family, colleagues, students and other health care providers, employers, payers, and the public. 5.PTA’s shall fulfill their legal and ethical obligations. 6.PTA’s shall enhance their competence through the lifelong acquisition and refinement of knowledge, skills and abilities. 7.PTA’s shall support organizational behaviors and business practices that benefit the patient/client and society. 8.PTA’s shall participate in efforts to meet the health needs of people logically, nationally, or globally. STANDARDS - LAWS There are 8 standards on which a Physical Therapist Assistant needs to know.

7 According to the APTA Bylaws; The APTA may expel a member from membership or discipline any member not in good standing. Complaints to the effect that the member has violated ethical principals or standards of the Association shall be processed in accordance with the Association Disciplinary Action Procedural Document.
