Surrounded by agricultural farmland. Great Fen sedge & Club rush are present in the marginal vegetation. Previously of importance for the submerged vegetation which has declined. Used by Anglers. Nearest Phone and dwelling & Postcode: Kenwick Hamlet (SJ422303) SY12 0JA Crosemere House (SJ434297) SY12 0JS Nearest Vehicle Access: Lay by on the A528 Access rights: All year – permission given by farm. Ellesmere Angling Club is Tony Fielding Tel no 07776 136068 or via his work (0151) 4867333 who maintain the jetties. Location and Access/Egress: North from Shrewsbury on the A 528 towards Ellesmere. Go through Cockshutt. Two miles after Cockshutt on the right hand side of the road is the small lay-by. If approaching from Shrewsbury, turn the vehicle around before parking (continue up the road to turning point – see map) so that students can disembark safely. There is also limited parking if you go into Cockshutt, almost immediately take the first right to English Frankton. Take the left (Crosemere Lane) at the Y junction. At mini cross-road go straight over. Continue down lane until past farms. Road peters out into farm track, continue until parking area is reached (SJ432300). Jetties are slippery when wet or covered in algae and over deep water. Check first, if slippery, do not use. Take throw can. Lay-by Marginal plant: Saw Sedge can give nasty cuts SY12 0JA Turn here (minibuses / cars) Sweat Mere – impenetrable, dense vegetation with deep muddy areas. AVOID Vegetation may obscure true depth of water Parking for small number of vehicles SY12 0JS Fence has to be crossed here with care
