WHY IS IT EASIER FOR SOME THAN OTHERS? We are at different stages in our journey with God We have different experiences We come from different traditions We are wired differently We have different giftings We have different levels of giftings We have different levels of comfort with this topic

Habakkuk 2:1-2 “I will climb into my watchtower now and I will wait to see what the Lord will say and how He will answer my questions. Then the Lord said to me, ‘Write My answer in large clear letters so that a runner can read it and tell everyone. But these things that I plan will not happen right away. Slowly, steadily, surely the time approaches when the vision will be fulfilled. If it seem slow wait patiently for surely it will take place. It will not be delayed.’”

A Journaling exercise Find a place of stillness and start with a desire for God to reveal his heart to you, do not try and read a great deal at once. If you read quickly, it will benefit you little. Read the passage twice – allow the words to become familiar to you. What stands out? What do you see? Read it twice again – how does it make you feel? Write the theme of this passage in your Bible. Does this passage rekindle any memories or experiences from your life? Ask the Holy Spirit what He is saying to you through this passage today. Write these words down. Read the passage two more times. Is there something God wants you to do? Write it down Spend some time quietly praying. Ask God is there is anything else He wants to show you. Finally, pray and thank God for His relationship with you.

WEEK ONE: INTRODUCTION TO HEARING GOD WEEK TWO: HEARING GOD & DISCERNMENT WEEK THREE: HEARING GOD FOR OTHERS WEEK FOUR: WAYS GOD’S SPEAKS

Quick Recap: What is the primary purpose of the class? Relationship with God (John 17:3) The process for hearing God – Hab 2 Desire Withdraw Wait Watch Record

THE BIGGEST QUESTION How do you know when an idea is from God? How do you know when an idea is from Satan? How do you know when an idea is from yourself?

The Four Filters: Does it agree with the principles of the Bible? Does it make me more like Jesus? Do other Christians confirm it? Does it bring peace?

How do we make decisions? Where God commands generally, through the Bible, we must obey When God commands specifically to us directly we must obey When He doesn’t speak specifically Meditate on scripture Be alert to what is going on inside us Pray, watch and listen Check your heart, correct any problems Take counsel Choose Trust Move forward

The Wise Builder Revelation – uncovering something that was hidden Interpretation - making sense of the revelation Application – what response is required? Implementation – carrying out what God desires

WEEK ONE: INTRODUCTION TO HEARING GOD WEEK TWO: HEARING GOD & DISCERNMENT WEEK THREE: HEARING GOD FOR OTHERS WEEK FOUR: WAYS GOD’S SPEAKS

Quick Recap: Primary purpose? Relationship with God (Jn 17:3) The process for hearing God (Hab 2): Desire/Withdraw/Wait/Watch/Record The four filters for discerning: Does it agree with the principles of the Bible? Does it make me more like Jesus? Do other Christians confirm it? Does it bring peace? The “Wise Builder” Revelation/Interpretation/Application/Implementation

WHAT: OT vs. NT Prophesy in the OT was forth telling and foretelling. Few people had the gift. In the NT we discover a prophetic distribution of the gift because now the Holy Spirit lives in all God’s people who have surrendered to Him. A definition of NT prophesy: encouraging, exhorting and comforting people by tuning them into what God has for them.

HOW: with care The vocal gifts must lead us to do two things: pursue love and do everything for the purpose of edifying the body. “Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone.” Colossians 4:6. “Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.” Eph 4:29

WHERE: everywhere “…for the common good” (1 Cor 12:7) Joseph, Daniel, Jesus all used this gift outside of the religious settings.

Steps to give a prophetic word 1.Ask God for a burden 2.Ask God for His heart 3.Diagnosis vs. Prognosis 4.Share 5.Instructions
