What did the OzoneWeb project do? A GIS-based system for collecting, providing and visualizing near real-time ambient ozone levels across Europe. Also provides background information on ozone and its health impacts. Website aimed at use by the general public. http://www.eea.europa.eu/maps/ozone/map/ Developed 1 st half 2006. Live in June 2006. (Based on preceding groundwork).

Functionality of website For general public: measured ozone levels in maps and graphs and background information about ozone and its health impacts Links to data providers and others For air quality experts: access to underlying data for further modelling and analysis

Principles of data exchange Control: Data providers remain in control of the data provision and use. Visibility: Visibility should be given to the data providers (branding and their services). Quality checks: Data received in real-time by EEA will be filtered to check for data outside pre-set limits and null or error values. Added value services: EEA aims to provide added value services back to the data provider organisations based on the data.

Control – data use Data providers control the use scenarios to which the data may be put. Data providers control the length of time which their data is available.

Visibility Data provider name and logo in map; Links to data providers; Links to national and regional sites.

Quality checks A unique provider station and station identifier (Stations match Airbase or are added as exceptions to station table) A known provider and data transfer mechanism a date and time in UTC or with known offset to UTC A valid measurement value, i.e., not non- numerical A pollutant identifier (pollutant code or a descriptive string) Ozone concentration values in between 0 and 500 µg/m 3 (or data provider specified)
