Disaster Declaration Provides a full range of long-term federal assistance programs for individuals and public infrastructure. Emergency Declaration Is more limited in scope, and without some of the long term Federal recovery programs available in a major disaster declaration. Situations of Distress When a natural catastrophe or other situation has not been declared a disaster or emergency by the President, but, in the judgment of FNS, warrants the use of USDA foods

Guidelines for Schools as Authorized Shelters ESC 1 Food and Nutrition Program CE’s that become shelters and provide meals for evacuees. Get credited for in their Entitlement Account for USDA foods used. Need to provide information to TDA Commodity Operations.

School Districts opening shelters ESC 1 Food and Nutrition Program Notify immediately John Kyere at TDA via e-mail at John.Kyere@TexasAgriculture.gov or at 512-475-0077 to advise of shelters and shelter locations that will be opened.

Guidelines… ESC 1 Food and Nutrition Program If a CE uses USDA foods to provide meals, within 30 days of closing a shelter, the district must track and report the following: Distribution period: dates USDA foods are used to assist in congregate feeding Commodity description: the type of USDA food used with USDA commodity code (reference Texas Unified Nutrition Programs System – TX-UNPS) Number of cases: the quantity of USDA food used Number of persons served
