Housing
Some British citizens believe that people from other countries come to England to receive ‘free’ housing from the government.
Taking houses that they believe should be for British born and bread people.
JOBS
Some British citizens believe that people from other countries should not be allowed to have jobs before ‘British born people’.
They have views that ‘they’ are stealing ‘our’ jobs.

‘Its our country, they should go home’.
Some people feel that they have a ‘right’/‘ownership’ over Britain as they were born here.
The government should not spend time and money on immigrants.
Benefits
Some people believe that if you are not British you should not be allowed benefits and the money comes from working citizens.
Some also think people come to this country to ‘fleece’ the benefit system.

18. What has the Government done to help?
As more and more people began to settle in the UK and racism began to rear its ugly head the government knew it had to act.
UK laws were introduced against this and the most important was the Race Relations Act in 1976 which made it illegal to...
Discriminate against anyone because of their race, colour, nationality, or ethnic background in terms of housing, training, jobs, education or the provision of services.
Use threatening or abusive language that could stir up racial hatred.
Publish anything that could cause racial hatred.

20. What has the Government done to help?
More recently the government has introduced a ‘Britishness’ test that all new immigrants to the UK must take.
As well as being able to speak some English they must also answer questions on British life and history.
