UNIT SUMMARY Germs (Viruses, bacteria and Fungi) are microscopic organisms, which are responsible for a number of diseases e.g. small pox, flue, hepatitis, whooping-cough, tetanus, typhoid, malaria etc. causing a great loss to human beings everywhere in the world. Biologists are trying their best to overcome their harmful effects by synthesizing medicines (antibiotics), proper vaccination, and introducing unique methods like sterilization and pasteurization to eliminate them. But we are still unable to get rid of them even by using modern methodology. Our students are unaware of these threats to our lives. Hence we have decided to do a project to help students understand the destruction caused by these viruses and bacteria. They will assume the role of biologists and research on them as well as their harmful effects on our lives. Through our project we will try our best to make the students aware of hygienic principles to remain healthy forever. Students will work in groups and conclude the project by making a persuasive presentation to help other students understand about different diseases caused by these micro-organisms. They will use internet for research, communication and collaboration when not in class.
