Lesson Objective At the end of this lesson we will have learnt the final camera terms and definitions and analysed two films.

Starter Watch the following clip. Look for evidence of the following:clip The genre of the film The narrative structure Audience positioning Camera shots and angles used

Additional Camera Shots Establishing Shots – Set the location Set the location Slo-mo – Slow movement; builds tension often Slow movement

Pan shot – Camera stays stationary, and moves (tilts up, down, side to side) taking in details Tracking shot – The camera moves alongside characters, usually on tracks. The camera moves alongside characters, usually on tracks.

Zoom – Camera focuses in on, or out from, a subject Mini cam – A tiny camera is placed in an unusual place for effect Steadi-cam – A weight controlled camera is strapped to an operator for controlled movement.

Mise-En-Scene A great deal of time goes into setting up each scene in a film. Camera’s have to be positioned in particular ways to have a particular effect on the audience. Consider all of the techniques we’ve looked at in past lessons, including those mentioned today.

Mise-En-Scene Watch the first ten minutes of Saving Private Ryan. Look for evidence of: – Genre characteristics – Narrative structure (story and how it is told) – Audience positioning – Camera shots and angles used
