Content Area: Science Grade Level: 3rd Grade Summary: The purpose of this instructional PowerPoint is for students to be aware of the animal species in North America. Learning Objective: Given an animal species, the student will be able to list if the animal species is thriving, threatened, endangered, or extinct with 90% accuracy. Content Standard: GLE Classify organisms as thriving, threatened, endangered, or extinct. Accomplishment: Use a data chart or informational text to classify organisms as thriving, threatened, endangered, or extinct. SPI Investigate populations of different organisms and classify them as thriving, threatened, endangered, or extinct.

What does this mean? Animals are classified as one of these 4 categories. -Thriving- Animal species that have high population numbers. -Threatened- Animal species whose population numbers have decreased and are at risk of becoming endangered. -Endangered- Animal species in danger of extinction. Species have low numbers. -Extinct- Animal species no longer exist.
