Why do we need a facility? Research and demonstrate current indoor pest identification and IPM strategies Help bridge the gap between newly licensed and no experience SPIs and PMPs more knowledgeable on latest technology Reduce number of inaccurate inspections and unnecessary pesticide applications Facilities in other states (GA, LA, IN, SC, OK) have been very successful

Current WSU training Prelicense training 2 + times a year Lecture and damaged wood and insect samples Hands-on field course

What will the facility look like? Basic structure with different types of construction practices and building materials

What will the facility look like? Not a classroom facility but there is one very close Basic electric but no water An elevated crawl space Basement dugout in OK

What will the facility look like? Removable wall sections to insert damaged articles and insects Carpenter ants Dampwood Termite

Training and Demonstration General inspection knowledge Pest ID and biology Damage caused by WDO Conducive conditions Legal requirements Building construction and maintenance Inspection & Safety equipment

The facility has many partners! Basic funding secured University, Association, Industry, Regulatory participation in building design

Excavation started this summer Building to begin Fall 2005 Donations committed from architects and developers
