Shortened forms of words You must pay attention to capitalization There may be more than one abbreviation for the same thing

Root = foundation of the word all medical terms have one or more root Suffix = word ending Prefix = beginning of the word combining vowel = links the root to the suffix or another root

make flash cards for each abbreviation or word part the word goes on one side; definition on the other Color codes to use for this class abbreviations will be yellow roots will be red prefixes will be blue suffixes will be green
