6. Root Words
All words start out with a root word. This is the basic part of the word. Root words are helpful for learning both the meaning and the spelling of a word. Suffixes and prefixes can be joined to root words in order to make new words.

If we can identify the main part of a word, we can then usually identify both the prefix and the suffix if they are there. This is a word - unemployment This is the root - unemployment This is the prefix - unemployment This is the suffix - unemployment

Look at the lyrics that you were given at the start of the lesson. Identify words that contain prefixes. Write the word in a list, and use a dictionary to find the meaning of the word.
