I am a senior at the University of Rhode Island double majoring in English and Secondary Education I am an undergraduate professional working as a building supervisor of a freshman residence hall I am a daughter, granddaughter, sister, and friend I am an avid reader I am an adventurer I am a self proclaimed Italian food connoisseu r "Do not dilute the truth of your potential. 3. Why Do I Want to Teach? I want to teach because I believe that education is the foundation of a successful future, a nuanced mind, and a rich life. I am committed to being a lifelong learner; I think that teaching will provide me with both the opportunity to teach and the opportunity to learn every day. I want to teach because I have had teachers, professors, and mentors who have helped me pave my path and discover my passions; I want to provide this same assistance to future generations. I want to teach because I believe that I can make a positive difference in the minds and lives of others.

4. Philosophy of Teaching Humanistic Students' behavior may be encouraged or defined by their needs or their lives outside of school. As a teacher, it is my job to be sensitive to and meet students' needs to the best of my ability. Behavioral I will keep behavioral psychology in mind when managing my classroom; I will reinforce positive behavior and work to extinguish negative behavior. Every student deserves to learn in an environment where they feel safe, welcome, and capable to voice their opinions and continue their education. Effective classroom management paves the road to a positive learning environment.

5. Philosophy of Teaching (cont.) Managerial I will incorporate as many engaging learning activities as possible to maximize time on task and minimize time spent on peripheral activities. Authoritative The classroom is the shared learning community of the students and the teacher; students will have an input in the rules and consequences that are created. The classroom rules and consequences will be communicated clearly and will be consistently enforced. Folkloric It is important to take the advice and knowledge of colleagues and master teachers into consideration. Educators at my school will have plenty of important tips to share and they should be respected.

6. Classroom Rules Be respectful of others and their property. Follow directions as they are given. Students should raise their hands in order to participate and to ask questions. Students should listen to others and wait to be called upon. Students should be on time to class and come with all of their necessary materials.

7. Consequences Strike one: Verbal warning Strike two: Conversation with teacher Strike three: After school detention Strike four: Office referral *I withhold the right to choose if it is appropriate to contact and involve parents or guardians. When possible, I would like to be able to treat all of my students like adults and handle all incidents and situations independently of parent or guardian involvement. However, I will contact parents and guardians when I deem it to be necessary.
