Thomas Adams’s Early Life Thomas Adams as a child was very obedient. He lived on a f arm and tried to raise money so he could one day be someone known. As he was a teenager, he thinking of being an inventor. When Thomas became an adult and invented chewing gum. After a few years he called the gum “Black Jack.”

Biography Thomas Adams was born in 1818. In his early life he worked on a farm to raise money to one day become well known. When he became an adult, he decided to mix up a batch of chicle gum in his kitchen. Then he quickly realized that chicle of the gum was smoother, softer and the superior taste and the gum currently became in vogue. People enjoyed chewing the gum. In 1875 he added a sweet spice to the new gum called “Black Jack.” The first gum was offered in sticks. “Black Jack” is still be manufactured well in the 1970’s and since then the gum is being produced and sold. In 1888, the Adams Gum Company was the first to introduce a vending machine in America.

Biography Continued…… The vending machine was installed in New York City Subway station to sell their new Tutti-Frutti flavored gum. In 1899, the Adams Company became the most successful chewing gum in the United States. During World War II, soldiers who fought in war, asked for gum, so it was a great that there wasn’t enough chicle available to satisfy it, and then scientists developed synthetic gum was based as a substitute. Today in the United States chewing gum is a total of 195 million pounds a year. That’s 175 sticks of gum per person and per year. In 1905, Thomas Adams died and his son’s took over the business, until the business was taken over by the American Chicle Company by Warnen Lambert in 1960.

Invention Thomas Adams’s invented the gum named “Black Jack.” When the gum first came out it was in sticks. Many people enjoyed chewing this gum. This gum is still being produced and sold in America.
