UNR NEES Training Workshop: “Shake-Table Testing”
2
Welcome to NEES@UNR A multiple shake-table research facility –Standard description of the facility capabilities… NEES Equipment: –Three Biaxial Shake-tables (two horizontal axes) –One Biaxial Shake-table (one horizontal + one vertical) –Data acquisition system –Telepresence: cameras, etc Non-NEES Equipment: –Actuators –Modular/reconfigurable reaction blocks/walls
3
Purpose of the Training Workshop Learn about what is involved in: planning, preparing and conducting a shake-table experiment
4
Workshop Program: Day 1 Overview of dynamic testing methods: Pseudo- dynamic testing, Shake-table testing, Real-time hybrid testing Overview of NEES shake-table facilities: Components and specifications Test specimen: Dimensional analysis, similitude, modeling and computational simulations Example case studies: In-class group activity I – Designing a scaled-model of a building
5
Workshop Program: Day 1 (cont’d) Test planning: Specimen design, construction, material and sub-assembly testing, Computational simulations, Input base excitations: Generated artificial and/or historically recorded, System tuning and ambient vibrations Data acquisition and instrumentation: Brief Test protocol: Introduction; detailed coverage next day
6
Workshop Program: Day 2 Test protocol: Implementation; System identification: White Noise, Sine Sweep, Snap- back Input base excitations: Generated artificial and/or historically recorded, Low-level excitations, Incremental testing to “failure” Data acquisition and instrumentation: Closer look Data types, processing/reduction, analysis, error Laboratory group activity I
7
Workshop Program: Day 3 Laboratory group activity II – Construct, instrument and test your specimen Workshop post-mortem and feedback
