1 Windows Computers Akash Patel

2 Background In 1975, Bill Gates, and Paul Allen are in a partnership called Microsoft. It was small when it started up, but they had a big vision for the future.

3 Windows 1.0 In 1983, Windows announces their first operating system, but the software was still in development and it was November 20, The boxes were called windows as you can move them, and shrink them; the code name for them was called the Interface Manager. The operating system came with programs such as Paint, Windows Writer, Notepad, Calculator, Clock, and Calendar. Windows gave people an easy to use interface that you can see and move your mouse without the use of the commands you need to use in the MS‑DOS (Microsoft Disk Operating System).

4 Windows 2.0 Microsoft releases Windows 2.0 on December 9, Due to the improvement in graphics, you can place windows on top of each other, determine the size, while also adding keyboard shortcuts that make computing faster. Speed and memory improvements helped this version of Windows be better, included with an Intel 286 processer, Microsoft later came out with an Intel 386 processer to make it more reliable.

5 Windows 3.0 The release of Windows 3.0 was on May 22, 1990, with Windows 3.1 coming out 2 years later. 10 million copies were sold in the first two years. Improvements in speed were more noticeable and graphics that supported 16 colors. Programs such as Program Manager, File Manager, and Print Manager are introduced, including the basic games you now see on majority of Windows computers. When Microsoft introduced Windows NT on July 27, 1993, it came with a 32-bit operating system, which supported engineering and scientific programs.

6 Windows 95 Selling a record 7-million copies by the end of September showed that Windows 95 was getting the supported it needed when it came out on August 24, This is the first well-known 32-bit operating system with the capabilities of the internet, , fax, better graphic games, and educational software. Windows 95 most notable features were the Start menu, taskbar, as well as the minimize, maximize, and close buttons on windows. Knowing that, Microsoft keeps the current interface look and just improves on graphics on each of the newer operating systems. With the introduction of the internet, Microsoft makes the first version of Internet Explorer.

7 Windows 98, 2000 With the release of Windows 98, on June 25, 1998, it was the first of the Windows operating systems to be designed for its consumers. The reason it was designed for the consumer was due to the operating system was used by common people regardless of age and purpose whether it was for work, games, or the use of the internet. Improvements include opening and closing programs easier, use of DVD discs, USB ports, and the Quick Launch bar with access of common programs.

With 1 billion PCs shipped worldwide, Microsoft introduced Windows XP; it was Microsoft's best-selling products since being launched on October 25, With a new, better look, and Help and Support services center including being faster, and stable it became even more user friendly, with easier use of the Start Menu, taskbar, and Control Panel.

9 Windows Vista The release of Windows Vista in 2006 greatly increased security with the addition of User Account Control, which helps, prevent possible software make changes to your computer. With improvements to speed, the look on Windows Vista made it look more modern and sleek than Windows XP. The more advanced version Windows Media Player enabled users watch TV, view and send photos, and view and edit videos

10 Windows 7 With the release of Windows 7 in 2009, laptops were outselling the desktops, this then came known as the wireless world with wireless hot spots at coffee shops, and fast food places. New features include Snap, Peek, and Shake to windows. Snap is to drag the window to either side to display the window to that half of the screen while dragging to the top maximizes it. Peek gives you a view of a window that was minimized. Shake is when you have multiple windows open, but you only want one opened, shake the window you want back and forth left to right to minimize the other windows. Windows 7 also introduced pinning programs to the task bar, which allow you use their jump lists

11 Windows 8 In 2012, the introduction to Windows 8 reimaged the older operating systems. The new interface totally changed the way you used a Windows computer. With the use of the touch screen, mouse, and keyboard, it changed how you would compute. Windows 8 had the normal interface like Windows 7 on the desktop tile, but the start menu was with tiles with options to apps from the Windows Store.

12 Windows 8.1 Last year, Windows 8.1 essentially expands what Windows 8 did with more apps and cloud connectively. Windows 8 + enhancements = Windows 8.1 in a nutshell. The improvements were based on Microsoft's innovating improvements and customer feedback. From start screen syncing to all devices to booting your computer directly to your desktop, many options were added to make it less complicated to use for some people.
