A FRAMEWORK FOR 24/7 DAVIDIC INTERCESSORY WORSHIP New Testament Clues
2
Subtle Clues No clear New Testament command exists to retain Davidic Intercessory worship or to abandon its use Old Covenant commands unless abrogated in the New Covenant still apply (10 commandments) New Testament clues for seekers – Proverbs 25:2 2 It is the glory of God to conceal a matter, But the glory of kings is to search out a matter: Hiddenness; parables etc. – God satisfies the spiritually hungry (1 Sam 2:5)

Luke 2:37-38 Luke 2:36-38 36 ¶ And there was a prophetess, Anna the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher. She was advanced in years … 37 and then as a widow to the age of eighty-four. And she never left the temple, serving night and day with fastings and prayers. 38 And at that very moment she came up and began giving thanks to God, and continued to speak of Him to all those who were looking for the redemption of Jerusalem.

Anna – Luke 2:37-38 Not a Levite by a lay person She appeared to be a night and day person serving in the temple courts She spent the bulk of her life in prayer and fasting She perseveres – 60+ years Forerunner dimension (Is 62:10-12) This Davidic intercessor announces the arrival of Jesus

Luke 10:39-42 Luke 10:39-42 39 And she had a sister called Mary, who moreover was listening to the Lord's word, seated at His feet. … 41 But the Lord answered and said to her, "Martha, Martha, you are worried and bothered about so many things; 42 but only a few things are necessary, really only one, for Mary has chosen the good part, which shall not be taken away from her."
6
Mary In the story of Mary and Martha we are introduced to a woman who chooses to sit at the feet of Jesus. This clearly upsets Martha who was fulfilling an appropriate cultural role of her day. Jesus commends Mary. Here is an example of one who wants to listen intently to God (Luke 10:40-42) and is not ashamed.

John the Baptist Matthew 3:3 3 For this is the one referred to by Isaiah the prophet, saying, "The voice of one crying in the wilderness, 'Make ready the way of the Lord, Make His paths straight!‘“ John 3:29 29 "He who has the bride is the bridegroom; but the friend of the bridegroom, who stands and hears him, rejoices greatly because of the bridegroom's voice. And so this joy of mine has been made full.

Early Church New converts: “devoted” to prayer (Acts 2:42) The apostolic emphasis on prayer and ministry of the word (Acts 6:4) Cornelius, a Roman centurion, “gave many alms; prayed to God continually” (Acts 10:2) Peter went to a prayer meeting that was going on in the middle of the night (Acts 12) The first missionary enterprise was the result of prayer and fasting (Acts 13:3)

The Jerusalem Counsel Acts 15:16-17 16 'After these things I will return, And I will rebuild the tabernacle of David which has fallen, And I will rebuild its ruins, And I will restore it, 17 In order that the rest of mankind may seek the Lord, And all the Gentiles who are called by My name,'
10
Restoring David’s tabernacle James tells the brethren that the gentile mission grows out of God’s promise to restore the “fallen tabernacle (booth) of David” – The greater David – Restoration of Davidic, national government (Amos 9:11-13) – Restoration of Davidic rule over the nations (Ps 2) – Restoration of Davidic worship & intercession (2 Chr 29:25; 2 Chr 35:15)
11
Throne Room – Davidic Elements Night and day intercession around the throne (Rev 4:4,8); angels, creatures, and men Musically assisted intercession (Rev 5:8) Revelation 5:9 9 And they sang … saying, "Worthy art Thou … for Thou wast slain, and didst purchase for God with Thy blood men “ In Davidic worship – Giving thanks and praise (1 Chr 25:3) – Remembering His covenant and His words (1 Chr 16: 15)
12
Summary – broad strokes Davidic worship was not eliminated, replaced or fulfilled in the NT. It still applies Anna was a Davidic worshiper Mary chose intimacy over activity Continual, devoted, public – even night time, prayer was normal in the early church There was an expectation for the restoration of “all things David” that included Davidic worship that would lead to a great harvest!
