2 U.S. COAST GUARD AUXILIARY NATIONAL PREVENTION DEPARTMENT MISSION STATEMENT(partial) MISSION STATEMENT(partial) The USCG Auxiliary's Prevention Department is responsible for the planning and administration of Auxiliary programs to support and augment the United States Coast Guard's Prevention Directorate. As such, we assist and augment the Coast Guard's vital role as the nation's guardian agency ensuring the safety and environmental protection of our nation's precious waterway resources. 2

4 The following are part of the Marine Safety Division: Prevention Outreach (CGAUX)Prevention Outreach (CGAUX) Commercial Vessel Activities (CG)Commercial Vessel Activities (CG) Port & Facility Activities (CG)Port & Facility Activities (CG) We are going to focus on the CGAUX program because it does not require access to a port or certification by the Coast Guard. This AUXMEES certification (Prevention Outreach) applies to every area of our District and is associated with Environmental Protection and Public Education – a key focus of CGAUX MARINE SAFETY DIVISION OVERVIEW 4

5 5 Focus on the Auxiliary Prevention Outreach Specialist Program Purpose: Auxiliary Prevention Outreach Specialists provide short duration seminars on selected Marine Environmental Protection, Sea Partners and America’s Waterway Watch topics to a wide range of audiences Auxiliary Prevention Outreach Specialists provide short duration seminars on selected Marine Environmental Protection, Sea Partners and America’s Waterway Watch topics to a wide range of audiences.

6 HOW TO GET STARTED Determine which program you would like to participate in and if that program is supported in your Sector. Contact the ASC (Aux Sector Coordinator) through the Chain of Leadership, starting with your FSO- MS. For Aux Marine Safety and Environmental programs, go to the Training Compendium located at this link: http://www.d11s.org/documents/dso- mt/member_training_compendium.xls Scroll down to “CERTIFICATION” and then look for the “MS” courses Each link will take you to a program information web page complete with details on study guides and PQS requirements. 6

Hold current USCG Auxiliary Instructor Training (IT) qualification Completion of PQS Workbook. Successful completion of oral board. Designation Letter submitted for approval. Once Designation Letter is signed, enter certification in AUXDATA.
