9 American FFA Degree Highest degree awarded by National FFA Organization Hold State FFA Degree Active FFA member for at least 36 months Completed 3 yrs. Ag. Graduated at least 1 year from high school Have in operation and records to substantiate an outstanding SAE program Earned & productively invest at least $7500 OR:

10 American FFA Degree Cont. Earn or productively invest at least $1500 and work at least 2,250 hours out of Ag. Class. Have a record of outstanding Leadership abilities. Have a High School Scholastic record of “C” or better.

11 TYPES OF MEMBERSHIP Active members - enrolled in an agricultural course & paid dues. Collegiate members - at college level & enrolled in agricultural courses. Alumni membership - open to former members, collegiate & honorary members. Honorary membership - supporters of FFA

13 MEANING OF EACH SYMBOL CROSS-SECTION OF EAR OF CORN 1. Corn serves as the emblem’s foundation 2. Corn served as foundation corn in American agriculture 3. Corn is native to America and is grown in every state.

14 MEANING OF EACH SYMBOL THE RISING SUN 1. Appears in the center of the emblem 2. Symbolizes progress in Agriculture 3. The confidence FFA members have in the future

21 Proper Use of the FFA Jacket 1. Jacket is to be worn only by members. 2. Jacket should be kept clean & neat. 3. Jacket should have only a large emblem on back & small emblem on front. –It should carry State Association & Chapter name on back. –It should have individual name & office or honor on the front.

22 Jacket use Continued 4. Jacket should be worn on official occasions with zipper fastened to the top. 5. Jacket may be worn to school. 6. Jacket should only be worn to places that are appropriate for members to visit. 7. School letters & insignia of other organizations should not be attached.

23 Jacket use Continued 8. When jacket becomes faded & worn, it should be discarded or the emblems & letters removed. 9. Emblems & lettering should be removed if the jacket is given or sold to a non-member. 10. A member always acts like a lady or gentleman when wearing the jacket.

24 Jacket use Continued 11. Members should refrain from use of tobacco & alcohol while wearing the FFA jacket. 12. Three medals should be worn : –Highest degree –Highest office –Highest award

25 The FFA Code of Ethics Adopted in 1952 at the National FFA Convention and outlines general guidelines for all occasions and functions, not just FFA activities.

26 Code of Ethics We will conduct ourselves at all times in order to be a credit to our organization, chapter, school & community by: 1. Dressing neatly & appropriately for the occasion. 2. Showing respect for the rights of others and be courteous at all times.

27 Code of Ethics Cont. 3. Being honest & not taking unfair advantage of others. 4. Respecting the property of others. 5. Refraining from loud, boisterous talk, swearing & other unbecoming conduct. 6. Demonstrating sportsmanship in the show ring, at career development events & meetings.

28 Code of Ethics Cont. 7. Attending meetings promptly & respecting the opinion of others in discussion. 8. Taking pride in our organization, activities, supervised experience programs, exhibits & the occupations of agriculture. 9. Sharing with others experiences & knowledge gained in the FFA.
