Handling and Transportation Module 9 (Instructor will demonstrate the various lifts and participants will practice after that)

2 During transportation of casualty, ensure: Air way is opened Bleeding is controlled Fractures and wounds are properly immobilized Casualty’s general condition are satisfactory Dressing are adequate and undisturbed Pulse and breathing are checked regularly The transport is Safe, Steady and Speedy Handling and Transportation

3 Casualty should always be carried feet leading except: When going up stairs or hills when lower limbs are not injured When carrying a casualty to the side or foot of a bed When going down stairs or hills when the lower limbs injured or the casualty is suffering from hypothermia Handling and Transportation Emergency Moves and Lifts

4 Ankle drag Used for people too large or heavy to carry or move in any other way Preferably used for dragging over smooth ground Less risk of back injury to first aider DO NOT use for lower leg injuries Handling and Transportation Emergency Moves and Lifts

5 Arm drag An alternative for ankle drag Might cause injury on first aider’s back DO NOT use for shoulder, head, or neck injury Handling and Transportation Emergency Moves and Lifts

6 Clothes drag Casualty’s clothes and rescuer’s hand support the head Can cause back strain for the rescuer DO NOT use for shoulder, head, or neck injury Handling and Transportation Emergency Moves and Lifts

7 Cradle Used to carry light casualty DO NOT use this method if there are neck or spine injuries Handling and Transportation Emergency Moves and Lifts

8 Piggy back For conscious patients with lower limb injuries that is able to hold on with their arms

9 Handling and Transportation Emergency Moves and Lifts Two handed seats Used for any conscious casualty who can be carried in a sitting position, but needs support from both first aiders

11 Handling and Transportation Emergency Moves and Lifts Fore and aft Used when operating in a narrow area DO NOT use this method if the arms, shoulders, or ribs are injured

The End Module 9 Handling and Transportation For training purpose only Not for sale End of First Aid course, followed by First Aid theory test. Instructor will conduct the above test after giving the participants 5 minutes break.
