So what have we done so far? Why is Prendiville doing this study skills programme? “To give us a tool that will allow us to work more efficiently in our studies so as to achieve to our full potential at school”

Understand and Use Your Wall Planner Often the case for improvement in study is NOT to study ‘harder’ but rather study ‘smarter’. Effective study comes from both a will within a student and a supportive environment around the student that also pushes them to stick to their study activities and routine.

Student Wall Planner The wall planner is designed to: Help students organise their time more efficiently. Allow students to become more aware of their study commitments in terms of assignments and assessments. Allows your parents to be part of your study. Support your routine.

Step 1: Set Your Goals With all Goal Setting there are three key points: 1. Be realistic with your goals. 2. Set goals that are both positive and measurable. 3. Set Your Goals continued… We need something to aim for – gives us a direction. We should be always reassessing how we are going and modify our goals. We all should have attempted and filled out the goals setting sheet. Both Parents and PCA should have signed.

Step 2: Analyse Your Time u When is the best time of the day to do Homework and/or Study? w Early in the morning before school? w After school – fresh in your mind? w Evening after a meal and relaxed?

Analyse Your Time continued How to Study Study is vital – just doing our homework is not adequate in allowing us to retain what we learn. Study allows us to retain information for test and examination. It requires routine and discipline. That is why we need a programme and a plan to work from You need to commit to the programme you have set up for yourself.

Step 3: Plan for Success An important part of study skills is being organised and seeing the bigger picture and set timelines. The Student Wall Planner allows students to map out their entire Term’s work in advance.

Plan for Success continued Term Planner The term planner is where you write down all the important assessment dates for the term. Examinations, assignments, excursions, orals, projects, rehearsals as well sporting and other events for the school. It is NOT a social calendar.

Student Wall Planner The Student Wall Planner will hopefully encourage you to: Get organised! Keep your activities in balance. Set your goals. Work at a regular routine. Seek your parent’s and teacher’s advice when you need it.

Final Points Please put up your wall planner some where in your house so that your parents have a chance to see it. This will allow your parents to support you in your studies and gives them a chance to see where you are at school The Planner is laminated and if a non-permanent felt marker is used the data can be wiped clean and changed as desired.
