4 The statement of inquiry: is a sentence which synthesizes the key concept, one or more related concepts, and the context considered for the unit; transfers through time and across cultures can provide universal understandings is unpacked through a series of inquiry questions is directly tied to the summative assessment.

5 The background: Inquiry questions After the statement of inquiry let us know about the inquiry questions. A teacher may choose 3–5 inquiry questions which explore the statement of inquiry in order to ensure adequate conceptual depth from the inquiry. Students are encouraged to develop their own questions in order to satisfy curiosity. The inquiry questions: shape and scope a unit of study promote student-initiated inquiries satisfy curiosity and deepen understanding scaffold objectives that students should strive to achieve can be of three types: factual, conceptual and debatable.

Line of inquiry: Students will discover the idea of innovation in patterns. How is the idea of innovative design explained? Line of inquiry: Students will explore how patterns are mathematical. How are patterns formed? Line of inquiry: Students will examine the geometrical relationships between innovation and pattern by creating generalizations. To what extent are innovation and pattern related, if at all?
