Seven Years War 1755, the British government ordered the Acadians, who refused to swear their loyalty to England following the conclusion of war of Spanish Succession in 1713, to be forcefully removed from their homes. (Considered one of the most tragic events in Canadian history).

Seven Years War 1758, General James Wolfe captured the fortress of Louisburg. 1759, Wolfe sailed British ships down the St. Lawrence and discovered Wolfe’s Cove. The British land soldiers on the shore and defeat the French at the Plains of Abraham. The French eventually surrendered Quebec 1760, Montreal was taken.

Seven Years War 1763, the Treaty of Paris was signed, New France became an English possession and Canada became a English Colony.

The French were unable to defend Quebec. What factors contributed to the failure? Montcalm did not get along with Vaudreuil. Cancelled each others orders causing confusion for troops Loss of Louisbourg- The Gateway to the St. Lawrence French farmers fighting and not growing/harvesting food. Supplies became scarce.
