3 * Signs of stress * Nail biting * Hair twirling * Rapid blinking * 1 in 3 children suffer from stress * Stress can cause physical problems

4 * 4-6 year olds prefer cooperative play to competitive games * Encourage children to cheer on teammates * Activities teach children not to compare themselves to others

5 Four years old * Spend more time in cooperative play * Fighting is common * Family is still more important than friends * Ask adults for approval * Enjoy helping around the house

6 Five year olds * More outgoing and talkative * Play best in groups * Social acceptance by peers is important * Don’t like to be different * Concerned about what others say or do

7 Six year olds * Children want to do things their own way * Best friends are the same sex * Children play readily in mixed groups * Friendships become closer and last longer
