A UXILIARY V IEWS! N O, R ICHARDS! C ADD STUDENTS MUST NEVER LEARN THE TRUTH ABOUT A UXILIARY V IEWS! F ORGET IT D OOM! T HEY WILL LEARN….EVEN IF I HAVE TO TEACH IT TOTHEM MYSELF!! T HEY MUST LEARN WHY AUXILIARY VIEWS ARE USED. T HE FATE OF THEIR GRADES MAY DEPEND UPON IT!! W ILL DR. DOOM SUCCEED IN KEEPING YOU FROM LEARNING THE TRUTH??

HOLE APPEARS ELIPTICAL RADII APPEAR ELIPTICAL TRUE-LENGTH NCLINED ON A DETAIL DRAWING, THE TRUE-LENGTH OR SHAPE OF FEATURES ON AN INCLINED (OR ANGLED) SURFACE MAY, ALSO, APPEAR DISTORTED... AND CANNOT BE DETERMINED BY STANDARD MULTI-VIEW PROJECTION DRAWINGS AS SHOWN BELOW.

6
TRUE RADIUS TRUE HOLE DIAMETER Auxiliary Views Auxiliary Views allow you to view the TRUE-LENGTH or shape of features on INCLINED surfaces by projecting the view perpendicular (90 degrees) to the inclined surface. NOW, BECAUSE OF CREATING THE AUXILIARY VIEW, THE HOLE AND THE RADIUS APPEAR AS THEY TRULY ARE.
7
A TYPICAL MULTI-VIEW DRAWING WILL NOT SHOW THE TRUE LENGTH AND SHAPE OF FEATURES BECAUSE THE SURFACE IS INCLINED (OR ANGLED). EVEN THE HOLES ARE DISTORTED TO LOOK LIKE ELLIPSES. AUXILIARY VIEWS HERE IS ANOTHER EXAMPLE. LOOK AT THE SPACING BETWEEN THE TWO HOLES IN THIS DRAWING. THE CENTER-TO-CENTER DISTANCE APPEARS CLOSER THAN IT ACTUALLY IS.
8
AUXILIARY VIEWS AUXILIARY VIEW o 90 ONCE AGAIN WE SHALL CREATE AN AUXILIARY VIEW SO THAT THE SPACING OF THE TWO HOLES IS AT ITS “TRUE-LENGTH” AND THE HOLES NO LONGER APPEAR AS ELIPSES.

PARTIAL AUXILIARY VIEWS
11
In this typical auxiliary view too much unnecessary detail is included, wasting time and effort, and making the drawing more difficult to read.
12
partial Using a partial auxiliary view the unnecessary background details are eliminated, simplifying the view and making the drawing easier to read.
