Social Studies The four main disciplines* within the social studies:
History Geography Civics and Government Economics *The National Council of Social Studies also includes Psychology but Ohio does not

Historical context as related to values and beliefs High School Use knowledge to make inferences about consequences and actions

Impact of humans and natural process on the environment Geographic tools to understand people and cultures Relationship of resources to territorial conflicts

Use geographic tools (thematic maps) to understand human and physical impact on ecosystems High School Use geographic skills to analyze problems and develop solutions

Civics and Government Recognize the importance of having rules and learn to evaluate them Understand rights and responsibilities of citizenship Understand that different countries have different governments

Personal responsibility leads to ensuring the common good Rights of the individual must be balanced with the rights of society (equity) High School The values of a country shape the culture, society and government of the country
