EC Treaty Article 149 To contribute to the development of quality education by encouraging cooperation between Member States and, if necessary, by supporting and supplementing their action. Article 150 To implement a vocational training policy which supports and supplements the action of the Member States. COMENIUS operational objectives to improve the quality and to increase the volume of mobility involving pupils and educational staff in different Member States; to improve the quality and to increase the volume of partnerships between schools in different Member States, so as to involve at least 3 million pupils in joint educational activities during the period of the programme; to encourage the learning of modern foreign languages; to support the development of innovative ICT-based content, services, pedagogies and practice for lifelong learning; to enhance the quality and European dimension of teacher training; to support improvements in pedagogical approaches and school management.

Who can participate in Comenius? Pupils in school education up to the end of upper secondary education; Teachers and other categories of staff within schools; Persons and bodies responsible for the organisation and delivery of education at local, regional and national levels; Schools; Research centres and bodies concerned with lifelong learning issues; Associations, not-for-profit organisations, NGOs and representatives of those involved in school education; Higher education institutions; Bodies providing guidance, counselling and information services. Training (courses, Conferences, Study Seminars, Job Shadowing) has to take place abroad, not in home country Grant contributes to travel and subsistence costs and course fees Selection By National Agencies Duration From 1day to 6 weeks Participation in European training activities for teachers and other school education staff Comenius Mobility – In Service Training

Job shadowing Job shadowing can give schools and teachers support for: Introducing or reinforcing the European dimension Implementing CLIL ( Content and Language Integrated Learning) by teaching a subject in a foreign language Improving the pupils’ comprehension and expression in foreign languages, enriching the language offer at school Developing and implementing projects e.g. Comenius School Partnerships Working with pupils with special educational needs Improving practical teaching skills Supporting development of pedagogical approaches, school management, evaluation

Examples of activities: Exchange of experiences and good practices Observation Teaching in your language / language of comunication / language of host country The host school does not receive any funds The teachers receive a grant by National Agencies through the Italian school

The NA procedure after the application…. Assessment of applications: -Common European Eligibility Checklist -Common European Quality Assessment Form Selection Results: -All applicants are notified of the outcome of the grant award process Contractualisation Phase and pre-financing arrangement Mobility Activity Submission of Final Report and final payment

The grant will make a contribution towards: Travel Costs (incluiding Visa if pertinent): - On the basis of real costs incurred - It is necessary to keep travel documents (tickets a/r; boarding ticket…). - For Italian Agency a ceiling up to max 550 €. Course or Seminar fees (NO Job Shadowing): -On the basis of real costs -Up to a maximum of 150 Euros per day (up to a total of 750 € ??). Comenius Mobility – In service Training Financial Support (1)

Subsistence Costs: accomodation and living expenses, local travel during the mobility period abroad, travel insurance: - On the basis of daily or weekly rates -the Italian Agency calculates 50%?? of daily or weekly rates. Linguistic preparation: If pertinent: self-study, participation in language classes, etc - a lump sum (up to maximum 150 € ??). Comenius Mobility – In service Training Financial Support (2)
