Activities 1. Assembling a Low Pressure Growth Chamber. 2. Uploading of the software program to the computer that monitors sensor outputs. 3. Programming the Temperature sensor – converting °C to °F. 4. Studying the effect of Low Pressure on Gas dynamics in LPGC. 5. Testing a marshmallow/balloon in low pressure to understand Boyle’s Law.

Activity 1: Assembling a Low Pressure Growth Chamber COVER Base 12V Power supply CR10 Datalogger O 2 Sensor

PRESSURE SENSOR OXYGEN SENSOR CARBON DIOXIDE SENSOR TEMPERATURE SENSOR 4L

Activity 2: Uploading of the software program to the computer that monitors sensor outputs.

Activity 3. Programming the Temperature sensor °F = °C*1.8 + 32 Step 1 : Collect data in °C Step 3 : Take stored value from Step 2 and add 32 Step 2 : Multiply data by 1.8 and then store value

Activity 4. Studying the effect of Low Pressure on Gas dynamics in LPGC Highlight Columns for Time vs. Pressure Figure Sensors Vacuum Pump

CLICK THE FIGURE ICON While Columns are Highlighted

Select XY Scatter Plot then finish

Final Plot: Sketch line in worksheet, repeat for O2% and CO2 ppm, see other groups if your group doesn’t have a sensor

Activity 5. Testing a marshmallow and balloon in the LPGC to understand Boyle’s law MarshmallowBalloon Boyle’s Law P 1 V 1 = P 2 V 2 Balloon test Marshmallow test (note: use ruler setup to measure height and diameter of marshmallow in the chamber)

Activity 6. Calculating the photosynthetic rates at Low pressure 6 CO 2 + 12 H 2 O C 6 H 12 O 6 + 6 O 2 + 6 H 2 O LIGHT

HAVE FUN and BE SAFE! ASSIGN GROUPS #s
