The Names Christians Wear
2
Remember the Joy of New Love? How delightful is your love, my sister, my bride! How much more pleasing is your love than wine, and the fragrance of your perfume than any spice! Your lips drop sweetness as the honeycomb, my bride; milk and honey are under your tongue. The fragrance of your garments is like that of Lebanon.
3
Faithfulness of the Bridegroom A beautiful metaphor: Isaiah 54:5 -- For your Maker is your husband— the LORD Almighty is his name— the Holy One of Israel is your Redeemer; he is called the God of all the earth.
4
Isaiah 62:5-- As a young man marries a maiden, so will your sons marry you; as a bridegroom rejoices over his bride, so will your God rejoice over you.
5
Hosea 2:19-20 -- I will betroth you to me forever; I will betroth you in righteousness and justice, in love and compassion. I will betroth you in faithfulness, and you will acknowledge the LORD.
6
Our Lord is a Noble Husband Jeremiah 31:32 -- It will not be like the covenant I made with their forefathers when I took them by the hand to lead them out of Egypt, because they broke my covenant, though I was a husband to them," declares the LORD.
7
Our Savior is Our Bridegroom 2 Corinthians 11:2 -- I am jealous for you with a godly jealousy. I promised you to one husband, to Christ, so that I might present you as a pure virgin to him.
8
Matthew 9:15 -- Jesus answered, "How can the guests of the bridegroom mourn while he is with them? The time will come when the bridegroom will be taken from them; then they will fast. Matthew 25:1ff -- "At that time the kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom.” The bridegroom tarries, but the wedding party will take place! We must be ready.
9
Our husband is faithful Hebrews 3:6 -- But Christ is faithful as a son over God's house. And we are his house, if we hold on to our courage and the hope of which we boast.
10
Will we be a pure bride for our husband? Ephesians 5:25-27 -- Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word, and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless.
11
Proverbs 12:4 -- A wife of noble character is her husband's crown, but a disgraceful wife is like decay in his bones.
12
The Church is to be Beautifully Dressed Revelation 21:2 -- I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband.
13
The UN-Bride Revelation 21:8 -- But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liars— their place will be in the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death."
14
Matthew 22:11-14 -- "But when the king came in to see the guests, he noticed a man there who was not wearing wedding clothes. 'Friend,' he asked, 'how did you get in here without wedding clothes?' The man was speechless. "Then the king told the attendants, 'Tie him hand and foot, and throw him outside, into the darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.' "For many are invited, but few are chosen."
