Overview: Song of Solomon Historical insight: husband and wife Also a picture of: * love relationship between Jesus / and a believer * relationship between Jesus/bridegroom and Church (collectively) / bride of Christ

The Change of Heart The Bride in 3:2 – “I must arise” “I must seek him whom my soul loves” The Bride in 5:3 – “How can I put it on again? How can I dirty them again? Complacency = “A feeling of contentment or self-satisfaction, especially when coupled with an unawareness of danger, trouble, or controversy.”

Complacency = Quenching the Holy Spirit “Do not quench the Holy Spirit” 1 Thessalonians 5:19 Serving Jesus becomes an interruption * I hear what He says * I will deliberate to see if I agree (pride, rebellion) Q: Must God explain before you obey? Isaiah 55:8

What Happens While We Wait? OUTWARDLY Divine appointments are missed – “I sent you for this reason” Ephesians 2:10 Doors of openness close down – (Ukraine) Galatians 4:2-3 Sin/pride rots and deteriorates like termites/cancer undiscovered! People are lost (or saved!) for eternity

Complacency Breeds Sin, Rebellion, Disobedience INWARDLY The sequence of sin – James 1:13-16 Temptation = carried away, enticed by his own lust Lust conceives, gives birth to sin Sin brings forth death For the believer, we breach sweet fellowship with the Lord For the unbeliever, eternity in hell

Vs. 4 – Aroused by the Extended Hand What DID stir her to action, at last? Vs. 4 – his hand reaching for her… The hand outstretched at the cross – John 12:32 – “And I, if I be lifted up, will draw all men unto Myself” His invitation reaching to you right now * offers forgiveness of sin * reality of new life * peace with God

Seek the Lord While He May Be Found! Vs. 6 – “My beloved had turned and gone away! I searched for Him but did not find Him” I called for Him but he did not answer me” 2 Corinthians 6:2 – “now is the acceptable time, now is the day of salvation” “Seek the Lord while He may be found; Call upon Him while He is near” (Isaiah 55:6)
