Colossians 1:28 “We proclaim him (Jesus), admonishing (warning) and teaching everyone with all wisdom, so that we may present everyone perfect (mature) in Christ. To this end I labour, struggling with all the energy, which so powerfully works in me.”

Colossians 1:28 (message version) “We preach Christ, warning people not to add to the message. We teach in a spirit of profound common sense so that we can bring each person to maturity. To be mature is to be basic. Christ! No more, no less. That’s what I am working so hard at day after day, year after year, doing my best with the energy God so graciously gives me.”

WORD 3 - WISDOM To teach effectively there is a need for wisdom Wisdom is the application of truth not the gathering of knowledge. Wisdom builds character. Proverbs 9:8-9 ‘Rebuke a wise man and he will love you. Instruct a wise man and he will be wiser still.’

WORD 4 – PERFECT / MATURITY Gk = teleios = a state of full development Discipleship is a journey from Milk to solid food = Hebrews 5:12 Child > Young man > Father =1 John

AND FOR US TODAY? 1. We are ALL on a journey towards maturity Therefore – be careful how we think of ourselves and others! Philippians 3:14-15 ‘Not that I have already obtained all this or have already been made perfect…..but I press on toward the goal….all us who are mature should take such a view of things.’

AND FOR US TODAY? 2. Pastors have a responsibility that can be difficult! To teach AND admonish / warn Need the strength and wisdom of God
