Matthew 6: (NIV) 19 “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. 20 But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

Eugene Peterson “Message” (paraphrase) “Don’t hoard treasure down here where it gets eaten by moths and corroded by rust or worse—stolen by burglars. Stockpile treasure in heaven, where it’s safe from moth and rust and burglars. It’s obvious, isn’t it? The place where your treasure is, is the place you will most want to be” “you can’t worship two gods at once. Loving one god, you’ll end up hating the other. Adoration of one feeds contempt for the other. You can’t worship God and Money both”

“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth” Verse 19 “….God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment” I Timothy 6:17 Earthly treasures are temporal and cannot be trusted.

Earthly treasures are temporal and cannot be trusted. 1. Earthly treasure can deteriorate and depreciate. “…the elements will be destroyed by fire and the earth and everything in it will be laid bare.” II Peter 3:10

Earthly treasures do not satisfy. “I made my works great, I build my houses, planted vineyards…I acquired male and female servants…I had great possessions of herds and flocks….I also gathered for myself silver and gold and the special treasures of kings…I had male and female singers, the delights of sons of men….whatever my eyes desired I did not keep from them. I did not withhold my heart from my pleasures…Then I looked on all the works that my hands had done and indeed all was vanity and grasping for thee wind. There is no profit under the sun” Ecclesiastes 2: 4-11

Earthly treasures can lead to temptation sin, and destruction “People who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge men into ruin and destruction. For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.” I Timothy 6:9-10

“But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven….” Verse Treasures in heaven appreciate and increase in value ‘…receive hundred times as much in this present age….” Mark 10: “Give and it will be given to you; good measure, ;pressed down (grain)…and running over will be put into your bosom” Luke 6:38

2. Treasures in Heaven last forever and forever 3. Treasures in Heaven please God “They are a fragrant offering, (sweet aroma) an acceptable sacrifice, pleasing to God. And my God will meet all your needs according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus”. Philippians 4:18-19

1. Treasures in Heaven appreciate and increase in value 2. Treasures in Heaven last forever and ever 3. Treasures in Heaven please God 4. Treasures in Heaven confirm our Passion “For where your treasure is , there your heart will be” Matt. 6:21

What is ”my portfolio” looks like? How do I build up my spiritual “portfolio”? 1. Do not store (lay) up treasures on Earth 2. Do store up treasures in Heaven 3. Know the Lord of “my portfolio”
