Simile The Airborne Toxic Event – Wishing Well “And you just wanna feel like a coin that's been tossed In a wishing well, a wishing well, A wishing well, a wishing well Well you're tossed in the air, And you fell and you fell Through the dark blue waters, Where you cast your spell Like you were just a wish that could turn out well” This song uses simile in the comparison of how you feel to a coin in a wishing well, because it uses the word “like.”

Metaphor Deadmau5 – One Trick Pony “Pump the brakes, you're a red-flag, red light” This metaphor is comparing the individual to red light, because they make people stop.

Alliteration Phoenix – Drakkar Noir “In the jingle, jungle Jingle, junkie Jungle, jungle men A better standard than mediocre” Almost all the words in this verse start with a J, making it an alliteration.

Hyperbole The Proclaimers - I would walk 500 miles “But I would walk 500 miles And I would walk 500 more Just to be the man who walked a 1000 miles” This is a hyperbole because the singer is exaggerating how far he would go for someone.

Onomatopoeia Dada Life – Boing Clash Boom “Everybody lose it - We are going to smash this room Everybody lose it - But not until the Boing Clash Boom Everybody lose it - We are going to smash this room Everybody lose it - But not until the Boing Clash Boom” This song uses Onomatopoeia with the repetition of “Boing Clash Boom” which is supposed to sound like the drum beat.

Imagery / Sensory Death Cab for Cutie – Summer Skin “Squeaky swings and tall grass The longest shadows ever cast The water's warm and children swim And we frolicked about in our summer skin” This quote has a lot of adjectives that set the scene. Squeaky swings, tall grass, etc. It paints a picture of the setting.
