3 The Canary Islands have been for many years the meeting place of many scientists, since it is one of the few archipels formed by the eruption of volcanoes and marine assets, besides being an area with numerous eruptions, and an interesting volcanic history which includes several tens of millions of years. Different theories have long been handled about the formation of the islands but the most accepted is the theory of lifted blocks.

4 It started 300 millions of years ago, and was the first stage of formation of the islands. At this stage there have been much underocean volcanism. The Islands have been formed as a result of the clash between African and Eurasian plate

5 The shield volcanoes are formed by lava flows of low viscosity. It is formed by floods of relatively fluid basaltic lava that comes from fissures. Fuerteventura was the first island formed. It started about 24 millions of years ago.

6 In Fuerteventura we can find a bandland or dunes from the post-erosion stage. At this stage the landscape units like volcanic cones, bandlands and dunes were formed. Volcanic cones are the base structure of the volcanoes.
