AL 4-H War on Hunger… Making a Difference GOALS To educate youth (9-19 yo) about hunger To facilitate engagement in the community and the development of civic identity – Raise awareness about global and local hunger – Move toward solutions for reducing hunger in AL communities To evaluate the quality of the info/activities and their impact on youth

Educate Youth Engaging Activities (3-7 days minimum) – Hunger Jeopardy – Action Tree – Hunger Obstacle Course – Web of Advocacy – Setting Priorities – And more! (Feeding Minds, Fighting Hunger, etc.)

Community Involvement Each group that signs up for the ETP will also complete at least one hunger-related community service activity (3-7 days minimum)

Evaluate Impact Retrospective pre/post surveys – My knowledge of global hunger before/after; poor, fair, good, excellent Open-ended questions (optional) – Which activities were the most meaningful to you? Why? Demographic record Activities record (edu and community) Success story

What’s Next? Complete first version of the curriculum Alabama 4-H War on Hunger… Making a Difference Distribute facilitator’s guides and orient partcipants to the ETP (Jan 2008) Implement the ETP across Alabama Continued partnership between 4-H and Auburn University War on Hunger Analyze evaluation data to determine impact Continue to enhance curriculum

Expected Impacts and Outcomes Increased knowledge of global/local hunger Increased involvement in creative community service activities Increased awareness of and involvement in the context in which hunger (and solutions) exist
