The Brain Our brain helps us control our body chemistry and makes us feel hungry when we need to eat by releasing the hormone OREXIM Hypothalamus has two parts: Lateral Hypothalamus when stimulated causes the organism to eat. Destruction of this area, you wont want to eat therefore starve. Ventromedial depresses hunger, stops eating. If destroyed you’ll eat forever If function properly: BALANCE Fat Rat

Hormones Insulin: hormones created by pancreas, controls blood glucose levels. Leptin: proteins given off by fat cells when there is a lot of this hormone, the brain increases the metabolism. Orexin: hormone that is triggered by the hypothalamus that makes you hungry. Ghrelin: when your stomach is empty, it sends signals to your brain that you need food.
