1. Jesus’ Temptation Your Temptation Luke 4:1-13

2. Temptation is NOT SIN. Jesus was tempted. Temptation = An invitation or enticement to sin. A lure or seduction to do something evil.

3. For we do not have a high priest [Jesus, the Son of God] who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are — yet was without sin. Hebrews 4:15 Because he himself [Jesus] suffered when he was tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted. Hebrews 2:18

4. Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit in the desert, 2 where for forty days he was tempted by the devil. He ate nothing during those days, and at the end of them he was hungry. 3 The devil said to him, “If you are the Son of God, tell this stone to become bread.” 4 Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man does not live on bread alone.’” ~ Luke 4:1-4

5. The devil led him up to a high place and showed him in an instant all the kingdoms of the world. 6 And he said to him, “I will give you all their authority and splendor, for it has been given to me, and I can give it to anyone I want to. 7 So if you worship me, it will all be yours.” 8 Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God and serve him only.’” ~ Luke 4:5-8

6. The devil led him to Jerusalem and had him stand on the highest point of the temple. “If you are the Son of God,” he said, “throw yourself down from here. 10 For it is written: “He will command his angels concerning you to guard you carefully; 11 they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.’” 12 Jesus answered, “It says: ‘Do not put the Lord your God to the test.’” When the devil had finished all this tempting, he left him until an opportune time. ~ Luke 4:9-13

7. Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit lives in you? 17 If anyone destroys God’s temple, God will destroy him; for God’s temple is sacred, and you are that temple. ~ 1 Corinthians 3:16-17

8. But when you are tempted, he [God] will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it. ~ 1 Corinthians 10:13

9. Demolishing the Temptations of the Enemy 1) Know and declare your Kingdom identity. Declare biblical truth over yourself of what it means to be a child of God. 2) Declare biblical truth against temptation. Memorize verses that apply to areas you often get tempted with. 3) Identify your vulnerabilities. People, places, situations. Avoid them! Decide beforehand not to go there. 4) Guard your heart. Don’t let into your eyes or thoughts things you know will lead to a bad place. Command evil thoughts to leave you. Take them captive to the feet of Jesus.

10. Demolishing the Temptations of the Enemy 5) Refocus your attention onto Jesus. Change your mental channel. Think about whatever is true, noble, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent or praiseworthy. 6) Confide in a trusted friend. Pray together. Encourage and support each other when you’re weak. Remind each other of your identity with Jesus.
