This document is confidential and intended solely for the use and information of the addressee Major Initaitives for 2009 Conduct a successful launch event that: -raises public awareness through the provision of a public commitment, media generation and a public display of the ability of people with a disability. -encourages positive attitudes from the football industry to create inclusive and accessible environments at grassroots level -enhances our partnerships with key stakeholders. Engage the states for the first time to take an active role in the implementation of inclusive strategies for people with a disability across Australia through -a member from each state affiliate attending the Australian Sports Commission’s Football Forum that the AFL is hosting where they will learn about potential inclusion strategies they could implement. -inviting them to the launch to witness inclusion in practice and people with a disability participating in Australian Football. Trial the modified Level 1 Auskick Coaching Course structure that addresses the need to be inclusive and modify according to differing abilities. Ensure any new resources/policy that are developed meet our inclusive benchmarks for people with a disability. Scope out feasibility of an easy-English portal on AFL Website. Objective 1. Publically highlight the AFL’s commitment to people with a disability. 2009 STRATEGIC PLAN Objective 2. Developing sustainable pathways and long term inclusion for people with a disability. Disability Launch (Inclusion Celebration) April 9 MCG Promote participation and inclusion for people with a disability in Australian Football through various media channels:  Media release  AFL Record  AFL Website  Scoreboard and venue announcements at disability launch  Local newspaper  Radio  Television  Photographer AFL media raised awareness around inclusion of people with a disability. AFL Media & AH April Statement of commitment provided at AFL Official Function CEO – AFL, CEO – AFL Foundation or GM – Game Development to signal AFL intent for working to ensure Australian Football is inclusive of people with a disability. DM & EB April Host key dignitaries at AFL Official Function Engage guest speaker for function to promote the theme 'inclusion of people with a disability in Australian Football'. 10 people attended AFL Official Function Guest speaker delivers speech at AFL Official function AH AH & ASC April Engage FIDA to play exhibition match FIDA take part in exhibition matchFIDA, AFL VIC & AH April Engage Auskick centres for people with a disability to participate in grid games Auskick centres with kids with disability taking part in grid games AFL VIC & AH April Friday night football program run in conjunction with DSAV Person with down syndrome acts as an assistant trainer to the umpires AFL Foundation April

MAJOR INITIATIVESKEY ACTIONSMEASURABLE OUTCOMESRESPTIMING 1. State Engagement State affiliates to commence involvement in developing inclusion strategies for people with a disability. Examples of potential state inclusion targets:  Audit current situation  Implement modified coaching course  Relationship building with disability sector  Investigate creating competition opportunities for people with disability  Run internal disability awareness training Invite states to football codes forum (including flights to Melbourne) Key person appointed contact for disability within each state. Discuss potential outcomes from state involvement with advisory group to provide practical steps for state affiliates. AH & EB April 2. PartnershipsDown Syndrome Association Enhance partnership with Down Syndrome Association Victoria to achieve delivery of:  Friday Night Football Program  Achieving Goals Actively Clinics  Mentoring Connections  Employment Opportunities Friday Night Football Program delivered each round. Achieving Goals Actively Clinics delivered in conjunction with umpire road shows. AFL Foundation to maintain position on Mentoring Connections committee. Finalise the AFL Employment Pathways Program for people with a disability. Employ AFL Employment Pathways Project Coordinator to manage the program. AH & JM Ongoing Football Integration Development Association (FIDA) Enhance partnership through:  Promotion of competition pathway through disability launch  Engage state affiliates to develop participation opportunities Conduct exhibition match at MCG in conjunction with the disability launch. FIDA to present to state affiliates at Football Codes Forum on practical steps on implementing competition opportunities FIDA, AFL VIC & AH April Australian Sports Commission Enhance relationship with Australian Sports Commission – Disability Sports Unit. Utilise case manager to effectively achieve outcomes. Invite key dignitaries to the AFL’s Disability Launch Host Football Codes Forum Achieve bronze level accreditation in Sports CONNECT at review. MAJOR INITIATIVESKEY ACTIONSMEASURABLE OUTCOMESRESPTIMING 1.Education Trial delivery of updated coach accreditation courses with the addition of inclusion as a key component of the course. Level 1 Junior Coaching Course features inclusive components and satisfy inclusive benchmarks in relation to people with a disability. AH & AFL VIC May/June Contribute in development or updating of any resources or policies to ensure they are inclusive (eg. Auskick Manual, Junior Policy etc.) New resources or policies being developed or updated feature inclusive components and satisfy inclusive benchmarks in relation to people with a disability. AH Ongoing Development of benchmarks to guide development or updating of any new resources or policies. Benchmarks document provides expectations of resources or policies. AH & KT Ongoing 2. Communication Report on disability in AFL Annual Report Disability section in annual report.AH & EB Nov 09 Updating of disability inclusion section of AFL website Minimum of 5 articlesAH Jan – Dec 09 Scope out feasibility of integrating inclusive strategies (eg. web accessibility, easy-English portals etc.) to AFL website.
